Can you post a picture of your slide controller?

My slide controller has a small 5 amp fuse and also has a ~20 amp self resetting circuit breaker. About every 3 years the small fuse will blow, replace it and all is good.

Last time I had a problem with my slides I checked everything I normally would check. Kept blowing the small fuse. Finally unplugged the wiring harness and used a meter to check each wire to ground. Finally found a wire that was shorted to ground, it was for the safety switches under the door. So I checked them, the door that is for my fuel and propane had a bad inhibitor switch, it basically fell apart and the wire was touching the metal.

The inhibitor switch it is a Cole Hears 9269 and is shown on the attached parts page.

The slides are also protected by a neutral relay, there is a fuse in my front run bay for this circuit >>> Slide out disable relay. On my slide controller board there are relays, one is for the ignition disable.

Diamond Shield or 3M?
Chuck Greco

Hi Karen,

Chuck and Donna Greco. We have removed the Diamond Shield from both of our motorhomes ourselves. In both cases, our 2008 Fleetwood Excursion 39r, and our current 2009 Monaco Dynasty 45 Stafford IV, we used a gallon of "Rapid Remover" and a 4 pack of plastic scrapers. We bought both on Amazon for a total of around $80.00 for each coach. They both turned out fantastic, with no damage to the paint. TAKE YOUR TIME, DON'T RUSH IT!!! It took about 84 hours each. It is labor intense, but worth every minute.

Look on page 8-252 of your owner's manual. FUSE 15, which is a 15 Amp fuse powers the slide switches. That has to be OK for signals or control power to get to the Slide Control Board.

The slide control board, due to the higher amperage motors has it OWN power input. SO, no power from the switches....NO WORK...

Assuming the interlocks and safety circuit is FUNCTIONAL.

Could NOT find your exact year in our prints....but did find this....for the 2004... This is PROBABLY what yours looks like. The BOARD may look a little different, but the control circuitry to the board, both the INPUT signals (switches) and the safety (parking brake and bay doors) is the same.

GOOD LUCK...

Aladdin Tank Sensor Reading reading crazy
amphi_sc

Just look at the nonsense your first picture shows for raw values for Empty and Full for fresh water ( as an example ). The raw full number is lower than the raw empty number!

Here's what I've done.

1. Empty all the tanks

2. Set the empty raw numbers from the raw numbers shown at the bottom of the first screen. I.e if your fresh water tank is indeed empty then that 22 number is good.

3. Fill the fresh water tank to where you are happy with "full" (i.e. you might leave it just a tad lower than coming out the overflow tube...)

4. Set the raw full number from the raw number displayed for FR ( FResh water tank)

5. Check your normal display screen... It will indicate 100% and you tank capacity as you previously set.

6. Now proceed to pump water out of the fresh water tank. I used a 5 gallon water jug in the shower to catch and measure each 5 gallons of water I let flow into the gray tank. If your gray tank is indeed 50 gallons then 9 fills of the water jug would put 45 gallons into the gray tank.

7. Determine what safety margin you like for your "full" condition. I left about three gallons for me... So maybe you add a couple more gallons to your 45 in the gray tank and call 47 your comfortable "full" limit.

8. Set the "full" gray tank reading to that raw number displayed.

9. Go back to your normal display page and you'll see gray is now 100% full with 50 gallons (although you left a 3 gallon margin of safety...)

10. Sanity check your Fresh water tank setting to see if is roughly corresponds to removing that amount of fresh water recognizing if likely reads with 10% granularity.

... Repeat for the black tank dumping measured fresh water into the toilet with the toilet flush water turned off so only your measured jug water is going in.

Hope this helps.

I also put a light pencil ✏️ mark on my fresh water tank every 10 gallons as I can visually see the level through translucent tank.

My Aladdin tank sensors serve me well. But I also keep them clean with proper waste water tank flushing and maintenance.

Edit: By the way, make sure you are level so the water is not leaning toward or away from the Aladdin pressure sensors.

Also I've experienced the Aladdin black tank sensor is more reliable than the three capacitive stick on sensors of the Thetford Tecma Silence macerator toilet. When those occasionally go crazy I use a Camco Tornado rotary tank rinser manually shoved into the appropriate spots for a good enema. As my toilet is a macerator I snipped off the flange and shove it up the black tank drain and let it beat around for a while catching what comes back out the drain ... Gray and fresh water tanks never been a problem.

Also on my coach the Aladdin fresh water readings must be fairly accurate to allow filling the fresh water tank as the Aladdin automatically opens or closes the fresh water full solenoid based on 80% or 100% full status. No manual fill valve, the only other alternative is sticking a clean hose into the gravity fill spot.

YMMV

Your scan gauge should give a two part code,

Unfortunately I cannot log into the Cummins Quickserve site to try and do a fault code lookup.

A general search of SPN 175 shows it has to do with the oil temperature sensor but there are several causes listed, anything from shorted wire to high oil temp.

But on my ISC 350 I don't have a oil temp sensor (from memory)

Is your ignition OFF, park brake set

Do you have a volt meter.

My slide controller is located in my passenger side rear electrical bay near the salesman solenoid. My slide controller is different then yours but it probably gets its power from a post on the salesman solenoid. Should be a large red wire going to the main harness. Make sure you have power going to the board.

Check the fuses closely. Use an ohm meter to check the auto reset circuit breaker. Check fuse in front drivers side electrical bay>>>slide disable

Not sure the function of each of the relays your control board. On mine one is the ign disable relay.

Attached is the labeling for mine, NOTE when you open it the picture will be blurry use CTRL & 5 buttons and it will clear up. If none of the slides are working it might be the ignition disable relay.

Hey folks.
I’m currently in the process of removing all the silicone sealant that has started to let go around the belt line, windows, vents etc. on the passenger side of the coach. It’s been quite a show getting some of this silicone off, and I was wondering if I could get some input on just how far I need to go on this. Obviously without removing everything, there will be silicone left down in the crevices, but is that going to prevent a good bond of the new polyurethane sealant I will be re-sealing with? See pictures for examples. The belt line I was basically able to loosen the whole thing off and remove all the silicone. It has been re secured with a mix of stainless TEK and stainless pop rivets. I found the pop rivets just weren’t holding in places, so opted for the TEKs in those places which seem to be holding good. Areas around the window are quite difficult to get the silicone out from just betond the surface and for the amount of work I’m putting into this, I really don’t want it to prematurely fail. Hard to tell from pictures in this case I realize, but hopefully you get the idea.
Thanks.

I went with Sikaflex 221 polyurethane sealant in the Aluminum Grey color as I think it will go well with my grey coach paint, and many RV repair shops have suggested it claiming it has a longer tooling time and in the long run will last longer than the competitors if applied properly. I’m sure I’ll hear otherwise shortly. 😉

Also, is this the ONLY device with no 12 VDC to it or do you have multiple devices with no 12 VDC?

Did I mention how much I hate removing silicone yet? My goodness. I was fortunate enough to get a couple almost complete “full pulls” from 2 of the windows. 😂 The rest, however, has been a very time consuming, painfully slow and tedious process.
For clarity, the three pictures are before, during, ready for sealant.
Second pic you see there’s a bead of silicone beyond the surface.
Third pic I’ve gotten as much of the silicone out, but if you look closely, there’s still some I doubt I’ll ever get without removing completely.
Think this is good enough as far as removing the old silicone goes?

For whatever reason, we kinda bundle all self drilling screws into the same category where I work. Seen ‘em called TEK, Kellie’s, Hurlers etc. but these are what I used as they were also found in several areas along the belt line.
I’m assuming these were either originally installed or my coach has been repainted, which I don’t think is the case. The belt line, where it was still fully attached still had the paint fully sealed to the coach and belt line trim. Could be wrong though

If I got the trans temp alone I would be happy, but since I removed the transmission heat exchanger and replaced it with two Derale electric fan transmission coolers and added powered vents to the rear engine doors I am less concerned with trans temp as the dash gauge now stays middle scale.

I don't want to advise owners incorrectly, so a copy of the page in your Owner's Manual addressing this would really help.

Silicone and polyurethane are both love hate type of products. Silicone goes on smooth and looks good, that's why it gets used for this location. Urethane would be an absolute mess in the factory, and would look like crap right away, and seems to weather much worse than silicone. That silicone still LOOKS great, like it's doing it's job even if it's not. When I get to this part of resealing, I will use silicone, even though I hate it, and polyurethane is superior in some ways. And I suggest that even if you use polyurethane everywhere else on the coach, this I'd do with silicone.

The silicone down in the crevice is not a problem at all. If this was a bigger joint, you'd want a backer rod to AVOID bonding the sealant to the full depth of the joint, and if this was a parallel surface, you'd want an hour glass cross section to the sealant for best adhesion on each side, and flexibility between. This is not an ideal joint, just something to fill up cleanly and hope it holds. The part deep in the crack has no chance of holding with movement, it's too small and inflexible.

Drilling and tapping cast iron works best dry. Grease can make it difficult. The last thing you want is a broken bit or tap stuck in your manifold.
On the plus side, cast iron doesn't form large chips. It mostly turns to fine dust, which is quickly swept through the turbo on startup.
It's very unlikely to damage anything, as it will be blown thru before the turbo gets up to speed.

Of course you don't want the trailer brakes to activate with the exhaust brake, but you also don't want your brake lights to activate with it either.
Having the brake lights on continuously on a long grade means that whoever is behind you will have NO warning if you do have to brake suddenly.

Ensure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead. • Allow the air system to build to full air pressure, about 130 psi. • Retract all slide-outs. • Press the POWER button on the leveling control panel to turn the system ON. The Power indicator light will glow solid green. • Press the AUTO button to initiate the leveling process. The indicator light, above Auto, will blink and the motorhome will automatically level itself. Red lights, in the motorhome icon, indicate the motorhome is leveling. The system measures along 3 different axes (rear axle, front axle and longitudinal axis) of the chassis to check for both level and twist in the motorhome frame. • Wait until all lights turn solid green. The motorhome is level. • When leveling is achieved, turn ignition switch off

I would have worried about that had I parked in a open area with strong gusty wind.

Now I am parking in my backyard with houses on four side, and cement fences (with tall tree behind it) on three side of my house, the wind is my least worry. especially in my area we never see strong wind. I will need to win Mega lottery 1000 times or more for that wind to move the coach in my backyard.

The only risk I can image is the earthquake, if earthquake strike while I am under the coach at the moment, that could be a big problem if the 4 (backup) jack stands under the axles also moved by earthquake and can't catch the axles when the 4 post moved by earthquake. if that happens, it really doesn't matter even if you have long jack stand as Mike has.

Also if you park in a open area with strong gusty wind, Michael's long jack stand won't help either.

Try again still the same thing!!!

Received the engine code reader, tried it on, got three message. (see attached),

Clear those 3 messages.

Tried starting again, now I only have one message which is the first one.

Jim at Irv2 reminded me that could be a fuel filter issue. I just changed the fuel filter without filling the filter. I will buy some diesel and fill the filter and see what happens.

Looks like I got two problems, first is the chassis battery didn't get charged and the air in the fuel filter.

After I fully charged the batteries, the air fuel filter still prevented me from starting the coach.

Now I looked back, is it possible that my old batteries is still OK after charging? is it possible the air caused the voltage drop after even the batteries is OK? Guess it don't matter now since I already give those two to Interstate.

I will get diesel and fill the fuel filter and hopefully that is it.

Oh yes. A good DC to DC charger is ideal for LiFePo batteries. Since they can suck a very high rate of charge, they can often take all that an alternator will deliver and put the alternator to more load than is good for it. That said, one of our rving partners let's his LiFePo bank pull straight from the alternator and has not smoked it YET.

I see two safety issues . Although the 6x6 post can support the vertical weight assuming that the full 6x6" top has a steel top plate where it contacts the just over 2" wide frame rail - otherwise you run the risk of the wood splitting. Second, you have virtually no base lateral support. Jack stands typically have a 1'x1' steel base to provide lateral support. In short what you are using to support the frame rails is not safe.

Repair a Popped Belt Line

A C& P OF A POST I SAVED

How to Repair a Popped Belt Line. Belt line pops are very common in Monaco brand coaches. They typically occur near the front and rear radiuses of the belt line but can happen anywhere along the belt line. To repair the popped belt line:1.) Remove the outer rubber cover far enough to where you see clean rust free screws or rivets.2.) Find the bad rivets or screws that are broke or rusted and drill a new hole 1/4 inch from the existing hole.3.) You have 2 choices here. You can use stainless screws or stainless rivets. I myself use 304 aviation grade stainless rivets that are 3/16 in size with a 7/8 " grip. If you use a screw use a # 10 no longer then 1 inch. Do not use aluminum rivets as they will stretch and open the caulking line in the future.4.) Begin reattaching the belt line with the screws or rivets.5.) Once the belt line is attached re-install the rubber over the metal belt line.6.) Seal the belt line off on the top and bottom using ProFlex RV caulking. Do NOT use silicone based caulkings. * All belt line caulking should be replaced every 8 - 10 years. * Inspect the caulking on top of the belt lines once a year and touch up or replace.

LOWER BELT LINE REPAIR

A C& P OF A POST I SAVED.

I know I have addressed upper belt line pop's many times before but I have never discussed lower beltline pop's. Every Monaco coach has 2 sets of belt lines which covers the upper and lower seams of the fiberglass walls. Lower beltline pop's, while not as common as upper beltline pop's, they do occur. In the pictures you will see 2 of the most common types. Many of the lower belt lines also incorporate the hinge for the basem*nt doors ( see the picture where I point to it ). We currently have a Beaver in our service center that is having all the lower belt lines repaired. This type of belt line system does NOT have the pop out rubber trim piece ( See picture ). Instead it is held on with 2 sided tape. This type of belt line repair should be attempted with a very slow and meticulous method when peeling off the trim piece. Know right now that paint can crack and then flake off. The same holds true when removing the old two sided tape from the back of the trim piece. In one of the pictures you will see how the screws rusted and some backed out or broke off inside the metal band. If you study the picture closely you will see my technician drilled a new hole 1 inch from the old screw holes and re-attached the beltine using 3/16" x 7/8th's " 304 stainless rivets. Never use screws or aluminum rivets. When re-attaching the rubber trim piece we only use 3-M Double Sided Tape, Heavy Duty VHB Mounting Tape. Never use any other type of 2 sided tape. The VHB mounting tape is made for these applications. My technician likes to run a tiny bead of clear Proflex caulking across the top portion of the trim piece. In the other photo you will see a pop-out rubber insert trim piece. This is removed exactly like and upper belt line trim piece. Again, take your time and work slowly as the paint can and will crack. As a side note, if you ever have this repair done by a shop and they want to use screws, run.... We have repaired dozens of belt line pop's that were done by other service centers who used screws or aluminum rivets. Over time, they will not hold. The screws back out or break off and the aluminum rivets stretch and pop. Remember, inspect your upper and lower beltline's often. Hope this helps some of you DIY'ers.

Your alternator is aLeece-Neville. These are very heavy-duty alternators used in big trucks and heavy duty marine applications. This is different than the light duty automotive alternators used in most gas-powered motor homes. It's your coach, but several folks are running lithium batteries with a Leece-Neville alternator and without the DC to DC charger.

I would make sure you charge your batteries as much as possible with the generator and inverter. In other words, don't start the engine and drive off with discharged lithium batteries.

I would make sure you charge your batteries as much as possible with the generator and inverter. In other words, don't start the engine and drive off with discharged lithium batteries.

That, I THOUGHT, was the reason for the DC/DC Charger...to protect the Lithiums, which are VERY PERSNICKETY, from being destroyed from proper charging.

The next question.... Assume you are going to install a NEW INVERTER as the original inverters....even the more recent Magnums (circa 2009 - 15) are NOT SUITED for Lithiums and MOST folks are gutting and putting in NEW INVERTERS....to protect their Lithiums and their investment.

Just CURIOUS....

We have had many folks that said...Just bought new LIthiums because I wanted...."FILL IN THE BLANK" or perhaps the statements of all the benefits of Lithiums. Then, a year or two later... OMG... I have toasted my Lithiums...and then decide to go back to the original Lead Acid RV Deep Cycle batteries. I don't have a list... but my mental one says it is well into the double digits.

There are MANY topics here that give you a good feel. This one, in particular helps. Suggest you search and do some reading....

Perhaps you are aware of all of this...but the fact that the Inverter was not mentioned prompted this question.

I also did a search....over 25 pages on LITHIUMS...Here is the search results and I selected the one below as the one to start with... Click on the link for the list...

Ironically, a diode isolator is designed exactly for this purpose, to limit current to the house batteries if you take off with fully drained house batteries, so that the chassis can function correctly, and gradually charge the house. I'm NOT suggesting you use the diode isolator that way, or even keep it, just that this is not a new problem. The Li would make the problem much worse and possibly blow out the diode isolator.

Hooking the DC to DC converter would mean removing the house battery lead from the isolator, and hooking the center alternator lead directly to the chassis battery bank, without disconnecting the remote sense wire from the chassis batteries. Remove any boost solenoid, or other connection between the chassis and Li besides the DC converter. You could leave the isolator in place as a base for the stud terminals, even leave the house and chassis hooked to the outer terminals as long as the center alternator wire is moved.

unfortunately none of the offered suggestions have worked

the best the tech can figure out is the 9 pin wire connection has failed. unfortunately we can’t find it. if you ren a wire from the switch to the solenoid it goes out fine. it comes in fine. we have aprox 40 hours in tracing this problem with no relults. so we are going to just run a new wire down the inside of the wall

Those instructions were made by some booksmart engineer who probably has never owned or been in a RV.

Richard - I agree, it is a very strange way to write the instructions. Why would you retract slides then level?

I believe they are still selling them for $1.00 a piece, plus $10 for Priority Shipping. Be sure to let them know if your covers press into the window frame from the side or from the bottom. Some of the very early 2000's had the locking tabs on the top rather than the side. You can contact them at 2b3dprints@gmail.com

We also would like to place an order once you get started (if your going to produce them to sale).

Could use 15 drivers' side and 20 passenger side.

Awning slide topper sweeper/protector; what is it called and . . .
Keith H.

I’ve seen these flat looking pieces of equipment that are attached above the slide-out topper that kinda “sweeps” the material clean of leaves, twigs, thick mud or dirt and other debris as the slide & topper is retracted back in to the coach. It then folds over the slide topper ensemble. It appears to come in aluminum color or black plastic or metal Does anyone know what these are called?

TIA

Keith

Best Practices for denying water leaks at Girard Awning to coach attachments
Keith H.

Can I get y’all’s opinion on the best way to protect from delamination of my side walls from water leaking at my Girard awning locations (or any roof location). It appears the black strip used to make a seam attaching my Girard to the body of the roof is rotting and has caused some minor delaminating underneath the awning.
Im not sure what the black strip is called and where to procure it. That would be Step 1, but what are other products you use on yourroof and the roof line/roof sides to prevent water damage and keep it protected down the line?

I know roof maintenance is essential and going forward, I’ll be taking it much more seriously. Therefore, I’m looking to armor plate my roof and everything that attaches to it and it’s sides. What products should I have on a revolving order on Amazon ?

So . . . . . what is that black strip called and where can I purchase it? And what other products do you think are best and essential for protecting the roof and everything else up there on top and the side of roof?

I want this thing WATERPROOFED!!!

I know this was long but THANKS for the help!

Keith

My land yacht is listing to starboard
Keith H.

Experts, I want to enlist your knowledge and know how to help me diagnose and repair (without surgery if possible), why my ‘03 Signature with tag is leaning to the passenger side after I’ve not driven it for a few days. I normally turn off both battery banks when not in use.
Recently, I had an air hose and reel attached to the coach on the driver’s side and the mechanic plugged it into an air reservoir on the driver’s side as well. I then found that I already had a nozzle to hook up an air hose next to my propane tank, DUH!!

I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence (I don’t believe in them) or what, but now I have this listing or leaning on the passenger side.
Any idea why it’s leaning or listing and how I can check to see what the issue is and most importantly how it can be rectified before it becomes a real pain in the rectified place!? And hoping it’s on the cheap

And yes, that is my Land “Cruiser” next to it (passenger side) . . . a gift from my wife!!
