Erika grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey. Her experience there made her love the outdoors. She has been a lover of nature ever since she was a young girl.
When she was 12 years old, Hurricane Floyd hit her hometown causing much destruction. It was then that she developed an interest to understand why and how it happens.
In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit again and destroyed the coastline area that she grew up in.
In 2018, she got married to atmospheric scientist Patrick Duran. Patrick is a native of South Florida.

Dr. Erika Navarro first graduated from Wellesley College, from where she graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics & Spanish Studies.
She then enrolled for her Master’s degree program at The University of Washington where she studied and graduated with a Master’s in Atmospheric Science and Meteorology in 2013.
Not stopping there, she went ahead to proceed with her doctorate at the University of Washington where she graduated in 2016 with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology.
As a Ph.D. student, she was also working at the university as a Research Assistant.

Navarro’s career began in July 2013 when she was working as an Independent Contractor at The Weather Company in the Greater Atlanta Area for a period of one month. While there, she was involved in creating a search query catalog of hurricane climatology, building a record of emergency managers covering the Coastal U.S, and in researching daily weather stories.
In January 2014, she worked as a Student Athletic Academic Services Tutor at the University of Washington up until June 2014.
Thereafter, in August 2014, she started working as an Independent Contractor for The Weather Company again for a period of one month.
In December 2016, Erika headed to work with The Weather Channel in the Greater Atlanta area as an on-camera meteorologist.
After two years at The Weather Channel, she had her last day on Dec 31, 2018. Thereafter Erika headed to work for NASA.
